| “The direction in which education starts a man will determine his future life.” ~ Plato The College of Liberal Arts (COLA) is the foundational college of Grand Canyon University. It has the largest number of faculty members of any college at the university and provides course offerings as diverse as Molecular Genetics and Robert Frost, with majors ranging from Digital Media and Graphic Design to Christian Studies. We are the backbone of what is called the general education core. These are courses that are required for all student degree programs. GCU is a Christian liberal arts university, and the College of Liberal Arts forms the well-spring from which flows the university and its mission. The college is more than just a service organization for our other academic units. In reality, COLA contains majors in the sciences and social sciences, media and communications, and the humanities. In addition to preparing students for a broad range of careers in science, business, education, and communications, we also prepare students to live as responsible leaders in the community. We are interested in what you will do the day after you get your diploma, but we are even more interested in the kind of person you will become because of your GCU experience. The liberal arts are about training body, mind, and spirit not just for a good job, but for a good life. A values-based education should: - Foster life-long learning and cultural appreciation skills for a diverse global society
- Teach personal and professional communication skills for use in traditional and innovative modalities
- Hone critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Provide a framework for serious contemplation of one’s worldview
“The very spring and root of honesty and virtue lie in good education.” ~ Plutarch |
